Ex-Brexit MEP Nathan Gill Caught Red-Handed Taking Kremlin Cash
Gill Admits Guilt Over Russian Bribery Scheme at Old Bailey
Nathan Gill, the disgraced former Brexit Party MEP from Anglesey, has confessed to accepting Kremlin money to spread Russian propaganda. The 52-year-old pleaded guilty to eight bribery charges linked to Ukrainian Kremlin-backed politician Oleg Voloshyn. Gill admitted he took payments to push pro-Russian narratives inside the European Parliament.
At a tense Old Bailey hearing, Gill revealed how, between December 2018 and July 2019, while serving as a Welsh MEP, he pocketed cash to promote Russian-backed views on the Ukraine conflict. Each charge could mean up to 10 years behind bars under the Bribery Act 2010.
He denies one conspiracy count related to dealings with Voloshyn from 2018-2020, but prosecutors say Gill took hefty sums to twist his parliamentary role in Russia’s favour.
Kremlin Puppet Master: Who Is Oleg Voloshyn?
Voloshyn, 43, is a shady Ukraine-based ex-journalist and politician deeply tied to the Kremlin. He was spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry under pro-Russian President Yanukovych and is linked to oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk’s opposition party.
Voloshyn previously worked for the banned pro-Russian TV channel 112 Ukraine. In 2022, both the UK and US slapped sanctions on him for pumping out Russian propaganda and aiding Russian intelligence efforts to sabotage Ukrainian democracy.
Gill’s Dodgy Political Career
- Began with UKIP, rising under Nigel Farage’s wing
- Switched to the Brexit Party right as the bribery allegedly began — December 2018
- Lost 2019 general election run as Brexit Party candidate
- 2021: Named Reform UK Wales leader — quit after poor election results
The scandal worsened when reports revealed Gill met with other pro-Russian figures in Ukraine and Moldova, allegedly arranged by Kremlin agents. His defence has fallen apart with today’s bombshell admission.
Justice Incoming: Gill Awaits Sentence Behind Bars
In September 2021, police stopped Gill at Manchester Airport and seized his phone, uncovering damning evidence of his cash-for-propaganda deals. He is now on strict bail conditions, banned from leaving the UK or contacting Voloshyn.
Voloshyn remains charged but out of UK reach. Ukraine has slapped him with treason charges for helping Russia’s war machine.
This explosive case exposes the poisonous grip of foreign money on UK politics. While supposedly representing Welsh voters in Brussels, Gill was secretly playing Moscow’s game.
