Ex-Cop Banned for Brutal Assault Conviction
A former Special Constable in Northamptonshire faces a lifetime ban after a gross misconduct panel slammed him for a violent assault. The disciplinary hearing was held at Northamptonshire Police HQ on December 12, 2025, chaired by Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet.
Daryl Day Convicted of Assault by Beating
Daryl Day, once known as Special Constable S3130, broke all codes of conduct when he was convicted of assault by beating in May 2025. The Leicester Magistrates Court handed him a tough sentence in June: a community order with rehab, 300 hours of unpaid work within a year, £650 prosecution costs, and a £114 victim surcharge.
Day Quits but Still Gets Slapped with Gross Misconduct
Day quit the force in October 2025 but skipped the disciplinary hearing. Despite his absence, he admitted the allegations in writing. Chief Constable Balhatchet labeled the behaviour as “utterly appalling” and confirmed that if Day had still been serving, he’d have been booted immediately.
“I consider the conduct to be utterly appalling. Men who are violent towards women have no place in policing and no place in the organisation that I serve. They should always face the full extent of the law.” — Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet
Forever Barred from Policing
After the hearing, Day was officially placed on the Barred List, ending any chance he has of ever returning to police work.
