Michael Jonas’ Family Outraged as Killers Show No Remorse
The family of Michael Jonas, a 17-year-old stabbed to death in Betts Park, Penge, have slammed the cold-hearted killers for their shocking lack of remorse. Michael was lured to the park on November 2, 2017, before being fatally attacked in a brutal assault lasting less than two minutes.
Six Years Waiting for Justice
After a painful six-year wait, six men were finally found guilty of Michael’s murder in November 2023. Throughout the trial, none of the defendants showed any regret or offered any explanation for their savage actions.
“Hearing about his death on a bus was like a death sentence for me,” said Michael’s devastated father.
Long Road to Conviction
The fight for justice was anything but straightforward. The Crown Prosecution Service initially dropped the case early on, only to reinstate it in October 2022. The family endured years of heartache and uncertainty, unsure if Michael’s killers would face punishment.
Mr Jonas praised a brave witness who helped bring the murderers to justice. “It’s been six years since Michael was murdered, and for a long time, I never thought we would get justice,” he said.
Family Speaks Out on Tragic Loss
Michael’s mother recalled the moment she learned of her son’s death—she fainted in shock. She described the unbearable pain of losing her son and the enormous void left behind.
His sister mourned the irreplaceable loss, expressing how deeply Michael’s absence has affected her life.
Sentencing to Bring Closure
The six convicted men—Nyron Jean Baptiste, Divon Henry-Campbell, Jason Smith, Jamie Marshall, Ryan Girense Brown, and Sarraviho Smith—now await sentencing at the Old Bailey. The court is expected to rule in the coming weeks, offering some closure for Michael’s grieving family and the local community.
