Ex-Nursery Worker Faces Trial Over Sick Child Abuse Images
Clark Merchant, 33, a former nursery worker from Gosport, has appeared at Fareham Magistrates’ Court charged with possessing indecent images of children. The disturbing allegations stem from images and videos found on his computers last November.
Serious Charges Send Case to Crown Court
Merchant showed no plea during the brief hearing. Dressed sharply in a grey suit and accompanied by his mother, the ex-Yellow Dot Nursery worker now lists his employer as the county council. Due to the severity of the charges, magistrates refused to hear the case, sending it straight to Crown Court for trial.
36 Indecent Images Found on Devices
- Merchant faces six charges related to possession of 36 indecent images.
- Also charged for possessing a video showing further indecency involving children.
- Evidence was discovered on a PC tower and a laptop seized in November 2015.
Trial Set for July
The trial is scheduled to take place on 18th July 2016.
Merchant was released on conditional bail ahead of the court date, but faces serious legal trouble as the investigation continues.
