Firefighters Rescue Pets from Smoke-Logged Home
Crews rushed to a property at 7.19pm after a neighbour called 999, alerted by a smoke alarm. On arrival, firefighters found the house thick with smoke and feared people were trapped inside.
Two People Safe, Pets Rescued in Daring Search
Braving the smoky nightmare, firefighters conducted a full search. They rescued two people, two snakes, and two geckos. Sadly, two budgies did not survive the blaze. Fortunately, the homeowners were out for the evening, safe and sound.
Possible Fire Causes and Heroic Fire Crew Praise
Investigators suspect the fire started from an unattended electrical charger or discarded smoking materials. Watch Manager Howard Midwood hailed the heroes behind the scenes and on the frontlines. He said:
“Initially, we thought there were people trapped. But thanks to the bravery and skill of the crew entering the premises and the brilliant info from our control room, we confirmed no one was inside. The control room team really are the unsung heroes of our service. They do a great job.”
He added a stern warning to the public: “Don’t leave chargers unattended and always dispose of smoking materials properly.”
