  • George Makai, 18, from Greenleaf Road, Waltham Forest – 15 years (after fleeing the country post-murder)

Police on the Attack: No Specific Target, Just Violence

“These defendants – one just 15 at the time – went out that night with only one goal: to cause serious harm,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who led the investigation. “They had no specific victim in mind but chose Bubacar, whose senseless killing has devastated his family and friends.”

“Knife crime wrecks too many lives. We’re working tirelessly to root out offenders and get weapons off our streets.”

The Fatal Night

On 23 October 2020, Bubacar was found fatally stabbed in the front garden of his Westbury Road home in Walthamstow. Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, he was pronounced dead from a single stab wound to the chest.

The Met’s Specialist Crime Command launched a detailed probe. CCTV footage showed the group leaving Priory Court estate around 8:45pm, heading to the murder scene, then returning about 9:10pm before hiding near a house and escaping by taxi.

Phone records and further CCTV led cops to Ferguson, Decordova, Bartley, Benitez and Makai. Four suspects were arrested in March 2021. Knives were found at the homes of Decordova and Ferguson, and clothing matched what was seen on CCTV. Makai was arrested upon his UK return.
