Ex-Met Police Officer on Trial for Brutal Rape and Kidnapping

A former Metropolitan Police officer is facing shocking rape and kidnapping charges, with a chilling claim that he tied up a victim and threatened to kill her, a jury at Croydon Crown Court has heard.

Cliff Mitchell’s Terrifying Threats

Cliff Mitchell, 24, from Toland Square, Putney, denies 13 counts of rape, including six against a girl—three of which allegedly happened when she was under 13. Prosecutor Catherine Farrelly revealed that in September 2023, Mitchell threatened one victim with a knife, warning he would slit her throat and stab another passenger in the car.

“I don’t care about my life any more, you’ve met the devil,” Mitchell supposedly told his terrified victim.

When the victim said she was feeling sick, Mitchell reportedly hissed menacingly, “If you throw up in the car, I’m gonna slit your belly for every second you throw up.” Her hands were bound with cable ties, but she managed a daring escape when allowed to get out to vomit.

Multiple Rape Charges and Additional Allegations

Mitchell faces six rape charges tied to the young girl, plus seven more against another woman between April 2020 and September 2023. On top of this, there are accusations he breached a non-molestation order and committed two counts of kidnapping.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Met Police Officer During Alleged Abuse

The court was told Mitchell acted as a Metropolitan Police officer during the time some offences allegedly took place. The prosecution claims he abused his first victim from 2014 to 2017, then continued his campaign of sexual violence against another from 2020 to 2023.

“He forced his sexual will upon them both, time and time again,” prosecutor Farrelly told the jury.

Mitchell denies all allegations, calling them fabrications. The trial is ongoing as more evidence is set to come before the court.
