Ex-PC Liam Williams Found Guilty of Gross Misconduct
Former south-west London police officer Liam Williams has been found guilty of gross misconduct for inappropriate behaviour towards female colleagues and members of the public. The misconduct hearing on April 16 confirmed that, if still serving, Williams would have been sacked.
Shocking Misconduct Uncovered
An investigation exposed multiple breaches of professional standards. Between June and October 2021, Williams made lewd remarks to female colleagues. He physically assaulted one, wrapping his arms around her and lifting her from her seat without permission. His conduct showed a blatant disrespect for equality, diversity, and authority.
Williams also abused his position in public, shouting to shock and intimidate people—damaging trust in the police force.
Resigned, Barred, and Banned from Policing
Williams resigned from the Metropolitan Police on March 18, 2024, before the disciplinary hearing wrapped up. He will now be placed on the College of Policing’s Barred List, banning him from any future roles in policing or related bodies.
Zero Tolerance for Police Misconduct
Chief Superintendent Steve Lemon, overseeing policing across Richmond, Wandsworth, Merton, and Kingston, slammed Williams’ behaviour. “His actions were well below the standards expected of a Met officer and would have led to dismissal,” Lemon said.
“The Met is committed to maintaining the highest professional standards to earn the community’s trust and confidence.”
This case highlights the Met’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct. The force says all such incidents are thoroughly investigated and addressed to protect the integrity of its officers and maintain public trust.
