Teen Girl Charged After Bromley School Lockdown Drama
Intruders Spark Panic at Haberdashers’ Knights Academy
A teenage girl faces charges following a disturbance that forced a lockdown at Haberdashers’ Knights Academy in Bromley earlier this year. On May 16, three pupils from another school trespassed on the academy’s grounds without permission, sparking alarm among staff and students.
Police were called to the scene and quickly spoke to the girls involved. As a precaution, the school activated its lockdown procedures to keep everyone safe.
Assault and Sharp Object Charges Laid
The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that one of the intruding girls—whose identity is legally protected—has been charged with common assault against Charlene Ponteen, vice-principal of Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South.
She also faces a charge for possessing a sharply pointed article on school premises. The day before the lockdown, May 15, it’s alleged she carried a hairbrush featuring a pointed end.
The teenager is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court later this week.
School Reassures Parents Amid Fallout
In the wake of the incident, Haberdashers’ Knights Academy sent parents a letter to reassure them that pupils were never at risk. The note made clear:
- The three girls were from another local school.
- They did not enter any school buildings.
- Staff responded swiftly, following safeguarding protocols.
- Police arrived promptly, and no injuries were reported.
“The safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is our priority and I want to reassure you that they were safe at all times. We have been in contact with the leadership team at the other school and they are committed to working with us and their students to avoid this happening again.”
The school urged parents to steer clear of speculation and promised support for any pupils or staff affected.
Police Continue Their Enquiry
The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the breach is ongoing. Anyone with concerns or information has been encouraged to contact the school directly.
