Grandma Murdered After Lidl Trip: Family Pays Tearful Tribute
A 74-year-old grandmother was savagely stabbed to death by a complete stranger as she walked home from Lidl. Lorna England’s family have honoured her with a heartfelt tribute following the tragic murder in Exeter in February 2023.
‘Lovely Lorn’ Remembered as Warm-Hearted Family Treasure
At the inquest, Lorna’s family recalled her as “Lovely Lorn,” a warm and loving soul who brightened every room she entered. Her sister’s emotional statement described her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
“Known fondly as ‘Lovely Lorn’ by those close to her, Lorna was a beloved wife of 52 years, mother, grandmother, and sister.”
“She was a kind and loving lady who lived life to the full and was the most content person you could ever wish to meet. Her smile lit up the room and her gentle nature made everyone feel welcome and loved.”
“She had a quiet strength and a generous heart; always putting others before herself. Lorna loved family holidays, exercise classes with her daughter, and DIY with her son.”
“She stayed healthy to enjoy special times with her family — something so cruelly stolen from us.”
Killer Threatened Violence Hours Before Slaying
The killer, Cameron Davis, was jailed for life with a minimum of 28 years. Shocking details emerged that Davis had warned hospital staff hours before the stabbing/" title="Stabbing" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">stabbing that he would “kill a random” person if not detained under the Mental Health Act.
Davis had called 999 at 4.41am threatening to set fire to his home unless arrested. Despite paramedics finding him threatening violence, he was discharged from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
After leaving, Davis purchased a knife and two bottles of vodka, then waited in Ludwell Valley Park — where he crossed Lorna’s path.
Exeter Left Shaken by Random, Ruthless Attack
While on her daily walk aiming to hit 10,000 steps, Lorna was attacked without warning. Davis stabbed her in the heart and neck, killing her instantly.
Police arrested Davis five hours later. He reportedly said, “I f***ing warned you… the people in the hospital should pay for this.”
The court heard Davis’s attack was a random act of violence born from fury at losing his accommodation and being denied hospital admission.
This cold-blooded killing has rocked the Exeter community, who mourn “Lovely Lorn” and demand justice for the senseless loss.
