Hammer-Wielding Burglar Jailed for Over Nine Years
A brutal daytime raid took a terrifying turn when Chaivaz Stapleton, 29, stormed a Swindon home armed with a hammer. The violent burglar has now been locked up for nine years and one month.
Daytime Horror Raid in Swindon
Stapleton of Station Road, New Barnet, targeted a property in Okebourne Park, Liden, on September 13 last year. At around 11:50am, he and three unknown accomplices burst inside while the occupants were home. They threatened the terrified victims with a hammer before smashing up the place and stealing a large haul of jewellery.
Quick Police Action Leads to Arrest
Police tracked down a black Vauxhall Astra linked to the crime, leading to Stapleton’s arrest during a raid in London on October 15. However, the other three raiders remain at large.
Detective Constable Jared Yalden from the Serious Organised Crime Unit said: “This was a targeted and invasive attack. Burglaries like this leave a lasting emotional scar on victims. We are committed to tracking down the others responsible.”
Wiltshire Police on the Hunt for Accomplices
Wiltshire Police confirmed fighting burglary is one of their top priorities. They are urging anyone with information on Stapleton’s accomplices to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing.
