Zane Donovan Jailed for Sex Assault on Pregnant Woman on Tube
Zane Donovan, 25, from White Gardens, Dagenham, was slammed with 41 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a pregnant woman on London’s Victoria Line. The Inner London Crown Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday, June 22.
Long List of Restrictions for Donovan
Donovan must also stay on the sex offenders register for a decade. Plus, he’s slapped with a 5-year sexual harm prevention order banning him from approaching any woman he doesn’t know in public — including on public transport.
Disturbing Incident on the Victoria Line
The victim got on the Victoria Line at Green Park station at 6.30pm on Friday, March 25. Almost instantly, Donovan pressed his groin against her from behind for about 20 seconds.
When confronted, Donovan brazenly claimed, “How do you want me to stand, I have no space?” before hopping off the train at Victoria Station. CCTV footage helped police track him down days later.
Police Urge Public to Speak Up Against Sexual Assault
“Some might brush off groping in a packed train as no big deal, but it’s sexual assault and punishable by law,” said British Transport Police Detective Constable Brittany Armstrong. “I’m glad Donovan’s behind bars for this disgusting act.”
She added: “If you experience or witness this kind of behaviour on the network, tell an officer or text us at 61016. We take every report seriously.”
