New Dad Alan Barefoot Dies After Brutal Thirsk Assault
Tragedy has struck in Thirsk after 32-year-old Alan Barefoot, a new dad from South Kilvington, died following a savage assault. Alan was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after a brawl spilled out of The Royal pub into the Market Place late on Saturday, 16 October.

Devastated Girlfriend’s Plea for Justice
Alan’s girlfriend, Charlotte, has paid a heartbreaking tribute. She said: “Alan was such an amazing boyfriend, son, brother, and friend. He was one of life’s good guys – just all-round brilliant. He was the best daddy to our newborn daughter. Our hearts have been shattered into a million pieces. We will miss him beyond words.”
Charlotte urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward. “Please do it for our daughter, who now faces life without her beloved dad.”
Police Launch Murder Investigation, Several Arrests Made
North Yorkshire Police have confirmed the investigation is now a murder probe. Detective Inspector Steve Menzies said: “We are determined to find everyone responsible for this attack. This was a young father’s life lost, just weeks after his daughter was born.”
So far, four men aged between 21 and 56 have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and released on bail. Police continue to appeal for witnesses and any footage from the night around 9.45pm on 16 October.
