Drunk Footy Hooligan Locked Up and Slammed with 10-Year Ban
A thug who launched unprovoked attacks on football fans, including a brutal assault at Northampton’s M1 services, has been jailed for nearly three years and slapped with a 10-year football banning order.
Violent Rampage Across Two Counties
Lee Waud, 38, admitted to drunkenly attacking a Stoke City supporter at the Rothersthorpe services on Bank Holiday Monday, May 8. The victim was travelling home by coach from Hull City’s final EFL Championship game at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road.
This was not Waud’s first violent outburst. Just days earlier, on April 29, he attacked a Swansea City fan after a league match at Hull’s MKM Stadium.
Multiple Charges and Lengthy Sentence
Waud faced two counts of affray linked to these shocking incidents. At Hull Crown Court on June 30, he pleaded guilty and was handed:
- 9 months for the Northampton attack
- 12 months for the Hull incident
- An extra 14 months for breaching a suspended sentence from a previous offence
All sentences run consecutively, bringing his total jail time to two years and 11 months.
10-Year Football Ban and Police Praise
Waud, from Staveley Road, Hull, was also issued with a maximum 10-year football banning order, barring him from attending any matches during this period.
“Football should bring people together over one common love of the sport,” said Detective Sergeant Pete Ticehurst of Northampton CID. “Anyone who tries to spoil that will be dealt with firmly and face the consequences.”
“I thank our colleagues at Humberside Police for bringing Waud to justice. I’m pleased to see him banned from matches for a long time.”
