Power Couple Prisoned for Stealing £117K from Elderly Liverpool Pair
A Liverpool husband and wife have been slammed with six years behind bars for abusing their legal power of attorney and siphoning over £117,000 from Gary’s elderly parents.
Living Off Elderly Victims’ Cash
Diane Mansell, 58, and Gary Mansell, 61, of Camp Road, exploited their position after moving into Gary’s parents’ home following a serious fall in 2017. They convinced the vulnerable couple to sell their house in 2019 – but never handed over a penny of the proceeds.
- Instead, the Mansells splashed out on luxury holidays, expensive dental work, and cleared their credit card debt.
- The victims thought they still had £27,000 from equity release and £23,000 from selling cars, but found only 28p left after checking with social services.
Detectives Seize Priceless Stash
Police swooped on the Mansell home, uncovering high-value items bought with stolen funds. Gary and Diane were arrested, then found guilty by a jury last week.
“The defendants were placed into a position of trust which they betrayed, leaving the victims with no money and no home,” said Police Constable Danny Molyneux, who led the investigation. “Gary and Diane showed no compassion and will now face the full consequences of their crimes behind bars.”
“Fraud devastates families. This sentence sends a strong message: police and courts are cracking down hard on offenders.”
