A massive fire erupted at an allotment in Crawcrook, Gateshead, late Monday night, sparking a swift emergency response. Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) rushed to the scene shortly after 9pm on March 4, tackling what witnesses described as a “large blaze.”

Fire crews worked hard to bring the devastating fire under control, while police cordoned off the area to protect local residents. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigators exploring the possibility it was deliberately set.
Terrified Locals Recall Blazing Inferno
Nearby residents reported seeing giant flames and thick black smoke billowing into the night sky. Some also heard loud bangs as the fire raged.
“It was terrifying to see the fire spread so quickly. The sky was glowing orange, and we could smell the smoke from our homes,” one local said.
Police and Fire Service Urge Public to Help
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed multiple crews attended the scene to stop the fire from spreading further.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and we are working closely with Northumbria Police to establish the circumstances,” they said.
