Man Cleared of Rape Near Brighton Palace Pier

A 27-year-old man has walked free after being charged with two counts of rape near Brighton Palace Pier. Joseph Eubank was found not guilty by a jury at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, 27 September.

The Alleged Incident

The case revolved around an incident on the evening of 16 July 2022. A 16-year-old girl reported she was raped near the iconic Brighton pier. Sussex Police launched a full investigation, with specialist officers supporting the victim throughout.

Trial and Verdict

Joseph Eubank, from Hill Drive, Hove, was arrested and charged with two counts of rape involving a woman over 16. Eubank denied all charges. After hearing the evidence, the jury cleared him of both allegations.

“We respect the decision of the jury and the judicial process. We acknowledge the impact this case has had on everyone involved,” said Detective Constable Em Hayler, who led the investigation. “I’d like to thank everyone who assisted us during the investigation and court process.”
