Surrey man cleared of Brighton rape but slapped with restraining order
A 23-year-old from Dorking, Surrey, has been found not guilty of rape after a jury trial at Lewes Crown Court. Mohammed Adam was acquitted on Thursday, May 8, over an alleged attack in Brighton on October 23, 2024.
Four-year restraining order despite acquittal
Despite being cleared, Adam faces a four-year restraining order banning him from contacting the 20-year-old woman who accused him. The complainant, a local Brighton resident, reported the incident last year and was supported by specially trained Sussex Police officers during the investigation.
Police praise victim and back justice process

“We commend the woman for coming forward. We thoroughly investigated this case and presented it to the court, and we respect the decision of the jury.”
“We continue to encourage anyone who experiences sexual offences to report them, confident they will be listened to, investigated, and fully supported.”
Police stressed every sexual violence allegation is treated with professionalism and care, no matter the court outcome.
