Jury Deliberates in Shocking Ipswich Assault Trial
A jury has retired to decide the fate of three Ipswich brothers accused of assaulting a schoolgirl over 40 years ago. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Three Ipswich Brothers Face Multiple Charges
At Ipswich Crown Court, brothers Shubhashish Day, 56, Debashish Day, 55, and Ramashish Day, 51, all from Heath Road, Ipswich, stand accused of multiple indecent assault offences. They deny eight charges spanning 1984 to 1990.
Debashish and Shubhashish also deny eight further alleged offences from 1982 to 1984. Shubhashish faces an extra charge of indecency with a child, which he also denies.
Disturbing Claims from Two Former Schoolgirls
The allegations come from two women who were schoolgirls at the time. During court, Shubhashish strongly denied claims of sexual misconduct during childhood games such as hide and seek.
“I did not enter a cupboard where one girl was hiding, nor try to kiss or grope her,” he told the court. He also rejected accusations that the brothers acted “as a team,” with one keeping watch while the others carried out abuse.
Jury to Resume Verdict on Friday
The jury will return on Friday to continue their verdict deliberations in this deeply troubling case, which has gripped Ipswich and raised serious questions about abuse long buried.
