Kent Police Snags Top MoD Award for Veteran Support
Kent Police has bagged the prestigious Gold status in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme. This honour celebrates organisations going the extra mile for veterans and their families.
Helping Vets Stay on Track
The force is working closely with Project Nova to aid veterans at risk of arrest. They connect these former servicemen and women with military charities offering tailored support. Inside Kent Police, a dedicated website lets employees with a military background register their service experience and highlight ongoing work by them and their families.
- Kent Police offers up to 15 days paid leave for reservists.
- An app on force phones connects staff to local support and advice.
- Over 70 service champions identify and assist veterans and their communities.
Proud Leadership Backs Armed Forces
“I am both delighted and proud that Kent has been recognised for supporting those from a military background,” said Temporary Chief Constable Tim Smith.
“Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2020, we’ve climbed from Bronze to Silver to Gold status. Thanks to the leadership of Deputy Chief Officer Ian Drysdale and Inspector Andy Miller, serving and ex-military personnel are treated fairly.”
“This vital work ensures veterans’ skills benefit our communities. Well done to all involved in securing Gold status.”
Deputy Chief Officer Ian Drysdale added: “Kent Police is proud of its military ties yet we aim higher. We support veterans, reservists, and active Armed Forces members we meet.”
“We’re recruiting and urge anyone leaving the service with exemplary conduct to consider joining Kent Police. We welcome a chat with you.”
