Brutal Murder of Father-of-Four Ends with 30 Years Behind Bars

Pat Ward, a devoted dad of four, was savagely attacked in 2019 in a horrifying crime that has finally been brought to justice. Niall Cox, 28, and Karen McDonald, 37, both from McCrea Park, have been handed a combined 30 years for their roles in the brutal murder.

Frenzied Assault with Barbell and Machete

The terrifying attack left Pat with multiple injuries after being beaten with a barbell and slashed with a machete. His body was stripped and cruelly abandoned in a dark alleyway in Clogher, where he tragically died from his wounds.

The judge labelled the crime “callous and savage,” highlighting the sheer brutality of this frenzied assault. Pat Ward was left vulnerable, fighting for life before succumbing to the horrific injuries.

Sentencing: 20 Years for Cox, 10 for McDonald

Niall Cox received a heavy 20-year jail term, with Karen McDonald handed 10 years. Both showed remorse in court, bowing their heads as justice was served for this merciless act.

Widow’s Heartbreaking Tribute to Husband and Family

Pat’s widow, Ellen Ward, spoke out after the sentencing, revealing the devastating impact on their family. “Pat was my husband, my entire world. He adored our four children: Tom, Leonie, Chanara, and Pat Junior,” she said.

“When Pat was murdered, my life was shattered. I lost the love of my life. The way he died will haunt me forever.”

Ellen also highlighted the heartbreak felt by their kids, left to grow up without their dad. “We’re trying to move on, but it breaks my heart that Pat isn’t here,” she said.

Despite gratitude for the court’s verdict and support from loved ones, Ellen acknowledged no sentence could heal the pain. “Pat’s parents, our wider family, and close friends have all suffered terribly,” she added.
