Levi Roots Joins Celebrity Big Brother Line-Up
Last night, 65-year-old Levi Roots stepped into the Celebrity Big Brother House alongside a star-studded cast including former X Factor judge Louis Walsh, Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith, Love Island star Ekin Su Culculoglu, and legendary Sharon Osborne.
From Brixton Kitchen to National Fame
Levi Roots shot to fame with his famous Reggae Reggae Sauce, crafted in his Brixton kitchen, often with the help of his seven children. His journey began in 2006 when a BBC researcher spotted him showcasing his culinary skills at the World Food Market.
Despite his children fearing the spotlight’s harsh glare, Levi took a leap of faith and appeared on Dragons’ Den. Against all odds, he secured £50,000 and investment from millionaire Dragons Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh, giving up 40% of his business.
Thanks to Peter Jones’s mentorship, his Reggae Reggae Sauce landed on Sainsbury’s shelves, instantly making Levi a household name.
Roots’ Rise: From Jamaica to UK Icon
Born in Jamaica in 1958, Levi’s passion for cooking and music grew as he helped his grandmother in the kitchen and sang in church. In the 1970s, he moved to Brixton, London, where he first made waves selling his sauce at the iconic Notting Hill Carnival.
Faced with 16 years of banking rejections, Levi’s grit never wavered. He transformed from a struggling entrepreneur to a national inspiration, invited to 10 Downing Street, launching a TV series, releasing a studio album, and touring schools to inspire the next generation.
An Inspirational Journey of Grit and Spirit
Levi’s resilience earned him an Honorary Fellowship at the Royal Agricultural University for his outstanding contributions to food and entrepreneurship.
“If a black Brixtonian Rastafarian can make it with just a sauce, then you can make it too,” Levi said, paying tribute to his humble Jamaican roots and his saintly grandmother who shaped his success.
