Man Dies After Punch Outside Village Pub
David Darke, 66, has tragically died just four days after being punched outside The Crown Inn in Appleby Magna, Leicestershire. The shocking attack happened on the evening of December 21.
36-Year-Old Arrested for Murder
Leicestershire Police initially arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Following a re-arrest, the man now faces murder charges in connection with Mr Darke’s death.
Police Seek Witnesses to Deadly Attack
Officers responded to the scene at around 9.45pm on Sunday night. David Darke suffered a serious head injury and died at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre on Saturday.
“The initial investigation resulted in us identifying several witnesses and examining CCTV from the area,” said Detective Inspector Kevin Hames. “Those inquiries will continue and the suspect will be re-interviewed by detectives. It is an extremely difficult time for Mr Darke’s family and specialist officers are supporting them.”
Police are urging anyone who was in Church Street that night and hasn’t yet spoken to officers to come forward now.
