A 25-year-old local man has been arrested after hurling racial abuse at a police officer in custody. The shocking incident unfolded in Bognor Regis on 17 June, putting the spotlight on abuse against law enforcement.

How It All Went Down

Officers were called to West Street following reports of a man trying to break into a property. When the police arrived, they arrested the suspect on suspicion of criminal damage.

While in custody, the man allegedly racially abused an officer of Filipino heritage. This sparked a fresh arrest for a racially aggravated public order offence.

Police Take No Prisoners on Abuse

The suspect was released on conditional bail as the investigation continues. Sussex Police told us they treat every form of officer abuse “with the utmost seriousness” and promised to deal with such cases firmly.
