Cambridgeshire Shoplifter Banned from Supermarkets After £1,000 Theft Spree

A petty criminal has been slapped with a suspended jail term and barred from major supermarkets across Cambridgeshire after swiping goods worth over £1,000 in a bold theft spree.

Darnell Baverstock’s Brazen Theft Spree

Darnell Baverstock, 27, kicked off his crime spree on November 24 at Aldi in Flaxland, Bretton, Peterborough. He made off with laundry products valued at over £200. Not satisfied, he struck again at a nearby Sainsbury’s, stuffing bottles of booze into a bag and trying to sneak out without paying. Security caught him in the act, but he managed to flee.

Undeterred, Baverstock returned just two days later to the same Sainsbury’s, this time stealing alcohol and other items worth more than £230—without getting caught.

Thefts Escalate Across Peterborough

  • November 30: Stole a woman’s bank card in New England, Peterborough.
  • December 2: Made off with over £300 worth of goods from Sainsbury’s on Oxney Road, Parnwell.
  • December 7: Hit the Co-op in Loxley, Werrington.

Suspended Sentence and Three-Year Supermarket Ban

Baverstock, from Eastfield Road, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to five counts of theft, attempted theft, and theft from a person.

“He was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for a year,” court officials confirmed.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Baverstock received a three-year criminal behaviour order banning him from all Sainsbury’s and Tesco stores in Cambridgeshire, plus Co-op in Loxley, Aldi in Bretton, and Bretton Shopping Park.

The message is loud and clear: shoplifters in Cambridgeshire face serious penalties and supermarket bans to keep their thieving hands out of the tills.
