West London Man Charged Over Anti-Muslim Hate Spree
Detectives have arrested Jonathan Katan, 61, from Ealing, charging him with a series of racially aggravated attacks targeting the Muslim community across west London.
Eleven Counts of Vandalism and Public Order Offences
Katan faces 11 counts of racially aggravated criminal damage, linked to attacks on mosques, local businesses, and the Palestinian Mission in Hammersmith. He is also charged with two racially aggravated Public Order Act offences under sections 5 and 4a.
The suspect was busted on November 27, following a spate of incidents from October 16 to November 18. Red paint had been thrown or sprayed around several sites in Hammersmith and Fulham, as well as Ealing.
Police and CPS Praise Team Effort
Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson, overseeing policing in West London, hailed the joint crackdown by police and the Crown Prosecution Service. He said, “This demonstrates how seriously we take allegations of hate crime against any of our communities.”
Community Urged to Stay Quiet
With court proceedings now underway, Chief Superintendent Wilson cautioned the public against speculating on social media, warning such chatter could undermine the case.
