Man charged with manslaughter after 90-year-old dies from brutal attack

Shocking assault ends in death

Detectives probing the death of a 90-year-old man have charged a suspect with manslaughter. The inquiry began after police received a report of an assault on Wednesday, 27 March.

The attack is believed to have happened three days earlier, on Sunday, 24 March, at a property on Fatherside Drive.

Victim dies from chest and facial injuries

The victim, 90-year-old Mr Burns, was rushed to hospital with serious chest and facial injuries. Tragically, he passed away on Saturday, 6 April.

Suspect faces serious charges

Michael Burns, 20, from Fatherside Drive, Netherton, was initially charged with section 20 assault and released on bail.

He was charged with manslaughter on Friday, 10 May. Michael Burns is due to appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday, 15 May.
