Son Stabs Mother to Death in Shocking Enfield Murder
A 28-year-old man has been convicted after fatally stabbing his own mother in their Enfield home last autumn. Criston Preddie, of Tennyson Close, admitted manslaughter with diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey. He is set to be sentenced on 5 June.
Police Called by Killer Son
Preddie himself alerted police at 7.23pm on Saturday, 28 September, claiming he had “killed his mother” but refusing to explain why. Officers arrived with paramedics to find 46-year-old Arlene Williams with fatal stab wounds. She was pronounced dead shortly after.
He Lost Temper Over Argument
Preddie told detectives he had an argument with his mother earlier that day. He lost his temper and attacked her with a kitchen knife while she sat on the sofa. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and charged shortly after.
Family Left Shattered
“This is a very sad case which has left the extended family devastated and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers,” said DI Joanna Yorke from the Specialist Crime Command.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The Directorate of Professional Standards has launched an investigation amid questions about previous incidents involving Preddie and alleged assaults on his mother’s ex-partner.
