Child Sex Offender Jailed for Nearly 8 Years in Norris Green
A 26-year-old man from Norris Green has been locked up for over seven years after pleading guilty to horrific child sex offences.
Joseph Duffy Caught After Online Child Abuse Hunt
Joseph Phillip Duffy, from Utting Avenue East, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court and was sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison, with an additional five years on an extended licence. He is also slapped with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must stay on the sex offender register for life.
Merseyside Police’s Online Child Abuse Investigation Team (OCAIT) launched the probe after spotting indecent images of children on Instagram. A police raid at Duffy’s home seized six digital devices, including four mobiles, a tablet, and a storage device.
Victim Identified After Digital Evidence Examined
Detectives uncovered that Duffy had groomed and sexually communicated with a 14-year-old girl he met via social media. The victim was later identified and came forward.
Duffy faces 13 charges, featuring:
- Three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15
- Two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15
- Two counts of sexual communication with a child
- Three counts of making indecent images of a child
- Possession of extreme pornographic images and cannabis
Detective Condemns ‘Utterly Depraved’ Actions
“Today’s sentencing follows a lengthy investigation to bring Duffy before the courts so that he pays for his crimes,” said Detective Constable Rory Quigley, OCAIT lead. “The victim showed immense courage and bravery throughout. His predatory actions are having a lasting impact on her and her family.”
“Merseyside Police is fully committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and those who seek to harm them. We hope Duffy reflects on the consequences of his utterly depraved actions while behind bars.”
“If you or someone you know has suffered sexual abuse, please come forward. We have specially trained officers ready to help with sensitivity and care.”
