Predator Jonathan Pelling Jailed for 14 Years Over Abuse of Two Young Girls

A Brighton man has been locked up for 14 years after sexually assaulting two girls he knew in Brighton, Newhaven, and Lancing.

Serial Abuser Exposed and Sentenced

Jonathan Pelling, 39, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court on Thursday (27 June). He was found guilty of five offences involving two victims aged between 8 and 14 at the time. The attacks happened between 2011 and 2014.

  • Three sexual assaults in Brighton against one girl aged 8-11
  • One child neglect charge in Newhaven relating to the same victim
  • One sexual assault in Lancing against a 14-year-old girl

Lifetime Sex Offender Registration

Pelling will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life. Detective Constable Nikki Clarke, from the Littlehampton Safeguarding Investigations Unit, revealed how the case unfolded.

“This offending first came to light two years ago when the first young girl bravely disclosed her experiences to relatives. Social workers and police were immediately alerted,” Clarke said.

“Our investigation uncovered further evidence suggesting Pelling had targeted other young girls. We identified another victim from Lancing who also gave a full statement.”

“Both victims stood firm, supporting the prosecution and giving evidence at trial from behind screens to protect them.”

“Pelling had gained their trust and used it to satisfy his own twisted desires. We always pursue justice regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred.”

Justice Served for the Victims

This case sends a stark warning: no matter how long abuse may have gone unnoticed, police will fight to bring predators to justice. The victims’ courage shines through, showing the power of speaking out.
