Man Jailed for Nine Years After Attempted Rape Attack in Teddington
A 33-year-old man without a fixed address has been locked up for nine years for an attempted rape in Teddington. Khoshaal Ghafoori was sentenced today at Kingston Crown Court, after being found guilty back in March.
Attack Takes Place Outside Teddington Hospital
Just after 1.30am on 11 October, the 19-year-old victim got off a route 281 bus outside Teddington Memorial Hospital. Ghafoori approached her, started chatting, then tried to kiss her without consent.
When she pulled away and tried to walk off, Ghafoori followed her down a side path. He then launched a vicious attack, attempting to rape her. Thankfully, the brave victim fought back and escaped.
Quick Police Action Leads to Arrest
Ghafoori fled the scene but was soon caught. The victim ran to a bystander who called the police. Officers arrived promptly and launched an investigation. Ghafoori was arrested in west London on 27 October and charged the next day.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery and Police Work
“Ghafoori subjected this young woman to a horrific and cowardly attack,” said Detective Inspector Simon Dowling. “Thanks to her quick thinking, she escaped, but the trauma remains. I want to thank my officers for getting this dangerous man off the streets.”
“Most importantly, I thank the victim. Her courage in supporting the investigation led to this conviction. I hope today’s sentence brings her some justice and peace to move on.”
