Sex Offender Jailed for Possessing Nappies in Breach of Prevention Order

Gary McVeigh, 47, from Winsford, has been locked up for two years and four months after breaking his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by possessing nappies. The judge handed down the sentence at Chester Crown Court on July 5.

Previously Convicted, Forced to Follow Strict Rules

McVeigh originally landed a two-year prison sentence back in August 2016 for possessing and creating indecent images of children. Alongside his conviction, he was slapped with an SHPO loaded with conditions — including a strict ban on owning nappies.

Routine Police Check Uncovers Shocking Breach

On May 21, 2024, cops paid a routine visit to McVeigh’s home as part of sex offender monitoring. They found three unregistered devices hidden away and, during a search of his bedroom, uncovered a stash of soiled and unused nappies. McVeigh was arrested again for breaching his SHPO.

Detective Warns of Consequences for Offenders

Detective Constable Helen Wrigley said, “As a registered sex offender, McVeigh was required to follow strict conditions aimed at stopping reoffending. We found an ad for nappies on his mobile phone, which raised alarms. The search of his home confirmed the breach of his SHPO.”

“This case shows how vital it is to monitor sex offenders in the community and enforce their conditions. We are committed to swift action whenever breaches occur.”

McVeigh pleaded guilty to three sexual harm breach charges before being sentenced. Authorities continue to keep a close eye on offenders like him to protect the public.
