£70k Cash Hidden in ‘Sandwich’ Foil Lands Man in Jail

A clever cash stash disguised as sandwiches has landed a man behind bars. Mariusz Raczynski was sentenced to 20 weeks after police found £70,000 hidden inside foil-wrapped packages during a routine check.

Lorry Driver Caught Red-Handed in Harwich

On July 27, officers from the Rural Engagement Team (RET) spotted a lorry going the wrong way, raising suspicions. The driver, 28-year-old Raczynski, was stopped for a closer look. Inside the cab, police found a bag full of silver foil packets made to look like sandwich wrappers.

When opened, the packages revealed a whopping £70,000 in cash. The RET swiftly brought in the Proactive Money Laundering Team (PMLT) to crack down on the crime.

Police Praise Sharp Eyes and Quick Action

Sergeant Paul Brady: “Our team focuses on rural crime, but we never ignore crimes outside that sphere. Being in the right place at the right time allowed us to take decisive action and protect the community.”

Detective Constable Megan Tighe: “Our Rural Engagement colleagues were alert and proactive, leading to a fast arrest. With support from the PMLT, we built a solid case proving the cash came from criminal activity. Just two months later, we have a conviction – a real team effort.”

Raczynski pleaded guilty to concealing criminal property at chelmsford/" title="Chelmsford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Chelmsford Crown Court on September 8, sealing his fate.
