Bright Young Star Steph Irons Fatally Stabbed in Nottingham

A chilling murder has shaken Nottingham after 23-year-old Steph Irons was fatally stabbed by a former colleague. Described as a “bright young star,” Steph’s life was brutally cut short in a shocking attack.

Attack Sparks Citywide Manhunt

On the evening of Tuesday, 21 October 2025, 40-year-old Adedapo Adegbola, once a workmate and brief partner of Steph, slashed her during a visit to her home in Mapperley. The savage assault followed the breakdown of their relationship.

Worried colleagues raised the alarm after receiving disturbing messages from Steph that night. Emergency services arrived at Westdale Lane West at 10.07pm to find her gravely wounded in her living room. Despite lifesaving efforts, Steph was pronounced dead at the scene.

Adegbola fled immediately, leaving blood-stained trainers and a jumper scattered across Mapperley and Carlton. He was tracked fleeing through Mansfield, Worksop, Sheffield, and finally Hull.

Suspect Arrested After Voluntary Surrender

The very next morning, Adegbola returned to Nottingham and handed himself in at Oxclose Police Station. He was arrested on suspicion of murder but refused to answer police questions.

Detectives gathered damning evidence from CCTV, digital footprints, and eyewitness accounts that mapped Adegbola’s every move before, during, and after the stabbing.

Guilty Plea and Heartfelt Tributes

On 26 January 2026, Adegbola pleaded guilty to murder at Nottingham Crown Court. Sentencing is set for 5 February.

Detective Inspector Stuart Barson said: “This is a tragic case in which a caring and compassionate young woman was taken away in horrific circumstances.”

“After the attack, Adegbola made no effort to seek help. His only concern was running and dumping evidence. Though he turned himself in, he refused to cooperate. The overwhelming evidence forced his guilty plea.”

“I want to thank Steph’s family for their incredible strength. I hope today’s outcome brings them some peace.”

Steph’s family paid a touching tribute: “Steph had an infectious smile and laugh that lit up every room. She was a beautiful, loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend.”

“She showed compassion for others and always saw the best in people. Her dream was to become a clinical psychologist, well on track after completing her degree and master’s.”

“Our bright young star had her future stolen. Though we can’t comprehend this loss, Steph will live forever in our hearts.”
