Dog Walk Horror: Woman Attacked in Eastbourne Park
Shock hit Hampden Park, Eastbourne, on February 25 when a 63-year-old woman walking her dog was approached by a stranger. The man, later identified as 28-year-old Lewis Wood, of no fixed address, was arrested the same day on suspicion of assault.
Serious Charges Laid Against Suspect
Following a thorough police probe, detectives charged Wood with intentional strangulation under the Serious Crime Act 2015. He also faces charges linked to attempting a sexual offence, under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Court Dates Set, Police Seek Witnesses
Wood appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on February 27. He remains in custody ahead of his hearing at Lewes Crown Court on March 27.
Sussex Police have urged anyone who was in the park and saw anything suspicious to come forward. Officers describe the attack as an isolated incident and have boosted patrols to keep the area safe.
