Vauxhall Burglar Nabbed for Preying on Elderly in Crosby
Delaney Caught After Ruthless Gutter Cleaning Scams
Michael Delaney, 37, from Oil Street, Vauxhall, has been locked up for three and a half years at Liverpool Crown Court. His crimes? Targeting elderly residents in Crosby with fake gutter cleaning scams that ended in intimidation and theft.
Twisted Trickery Behind the Burglary
It all kicked off on March 4, 2023, when Delaney broke into an elderly man’s home. Pretending he had earlier cleaned the gutters, he demanded payment. Not stopping there, he even tried to screw with the home’s CCTV cameras to dodge being caught on tape.
£650 Scam Leads to Arrest
Delaney pulled the same con again later that month, forcing another elderly victim to cough up £650. This time, the victim quickly tipped off the police, which led to Delaney’s arrest and eventual trial.
Police Condemn ‘Callous’ Crimes Against the Vulnerable
Detective Inspector James Halpin blasted Delaney’s actions: “He preyed on vulnerable elderly victims who had every right to feel safe in their own homes.”
He added the harsh sentence sends a clear warning that crimes targeting the vulnerable will be met with serious consequences.
The message is clear: predators like Delaney won’t be allowed to terrorise the elderly in peace. The justice system is watching closely and ready to act.
