Leeds Man Jailed for Historic Sexual Abuse
A Leeds man has been locked up for six years after being found guilty of sexually abusing a girl over 20 years ago. Daniel Richardson, 38, formerly known as Daniel Bedford, from Leeds Road, Lofthouse, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court following a harrowing trial.
Two Charges of Indecent Assault
Richardson was convicted of two counts of indecent assault against a single victim. The abuse took place over several years starting in 2003, leaving a lasting scar on the survivor’s life.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery
Detective Sergeant Emma Maltas of the Leeds District Safeguarding Team praised the victim’s courage for coming forward as an adult. She said the abuse had a “substantial and enduring impact” on her life. Maltas hopes the conviction brings closure and validates the victim’s struggle to heal.
Justice Sends a Strong Message
Maltas stressed the seriousness of Richardson’s crimes and urged survivors to report abuse. “Victims will be listened to, supported, and we will do all we can to secure justice,” she said. This case shows that no one should suffer in silence.
