Garage Break-In Culprit Jailed for Ransacking Luxury Motors
A 41-year-old man has been locked up for smashing up a Melksham car garage and stealing parts worth thousands. Ian Lawson, from Faversham, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on August 20, admitting to five counts of theft from motor vehicles.
19 Months Behind Bars for High-Value Heist
Lawson was sentenced to 19 months in prison and hit with a £149 victim surcharge. The drama unfolded on the night of July 9, 2019, when CCTV spotted Lawson prowling around Dick Lovett Jaguar and Land Rover in Melksham.
Police in Hot Pursuit After CCTV Tip-Off
- Officers found Lawson standing on a car, attempting to flee by jumping over a fence near the A350.
- Several stolen Land Rover parts – headlights and grills – were scattered outside the compound.
- Two suspects ran from police; Lawson was caught after a foot chase aided by PC Ali Davies and police dog Lorrie.
- The dog also helped snare a second man nearby.
PC Becky Mitchell, involved in the chase, said: “The damage caused to the vehicles at Dick Lovett was estimated to be in excess of £7,300. Five Land Rovers were damaged and fencing needed fixing.”
“Lawson targeted these luxury vehicles, armed with tools to strip parts he likely planned to flog.”
“Thanks to a vigilant CCTV operator and quick police response, we swiftly caught Lawson and his accomplice.”
Another Suspect Faces Charges
Liam Parter, 23, from Sittingbourne, is also charged with five counts of theft from a vehicle. His sentencing date has yet to be set.
