Son Kills Mum, Then Casually Walks Into Police Station to Confess
A 51-year-old man from Hayes has been jailed for life after strangling his mum and strolling into a police station to confess the brutal crime. Majid Butt admitted murdering 71-year-old Onees Khatoon at the Old Bailey on 5 September.
Life Sentence Handed Down
Butt was sentenced on 12 September to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 15 years and 10 months. He calmly approached Hayes police station around 1pm on Sunday 13 May and told officers, “I came here to confess that I have strangled my mother.”
Horrific Crime Scene at Home
Officers rushed to the family home in Gade Close, Hayes, where both lived, and discovered the body of Mrs Khatoon. She was pronounced dead shortly after. A post-mortem confirmed she died from asphyxia and neck compression caused by strangulation with an electrical cable.
Police and Family React
During questioning, Butt admitted the killing followed a heated argument, with his mum threatening to throw him out of the house. Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh said:
“This is a tragic case for everyone connected with the family. Onees had serious health issues and was vulnerable. Distressingly, the very person she raised turned on her fatally. She was unable to defend herself. I pay tribute to officers who acted swiftly and to the family coping with this terrible loss.”
