Disqualified driver jailed for 12 years over toddler’s tragic death in Manchester crash

Deadly Van Crash Shocks Manchester

Rawal Rehman, a banned driver, has been locked up for 12 years after a horrific van crash claimed the life of 3-year-old Louisa “Lulu” Palmisano. The devastating collision ripped through Manchester’s community, leaving a family shattered.

Rehman was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. On top of his jail term, he’s banned from the roads for 13 years and eight months. He will also have to pass an extended driving test before he can ever get behind the wheel again.

How It Happened: Reckless Driving and Tragic Impact

The deadly smash occurred when Rehman ignored stop signs and sped through a busy junction, smashing into a tram. The violent impact hurled his van onto the pavement, where Lulu and her parents were walking.

  • Lulu suffered fatal injuries and died despite frantic efforts from emergency crews.
  • Her parents were hurt but survived.

Judge Slams ‘Criminally Negligent’ Driver

The judge slammed Rehman for his blatant disrespect of road safety laws — especially as he was driving despite being banned.

“Your actions were not only dangerous but criminally negligent. You robbed a family of their daughter and a community of a child full of life,” the judge said.

Remembering Little Lulu

Lulu was a bright, happy, and loving child, adored by family and friends alike. Following the tragedy, floral tributes and teddy bears appeared at the crash site. Hundreds gathered at a local vigil to honour her memory.

Long Drive Ban Added to Prison Sentence

Rehman faces a 13 years and eight months driving ban, which includes his time behind bars. If he ever wants to drive again, he’ll have to pass an extended driving test before regaining his licence.
