Hot-Tempered Offender Thrown Behind Bars After Coffee Attack on Cop
Violent Outburst Shatters Medical Centre Calm
A violent troublemaker from Maidstone didn’t hold back when he lashed out at a medical centre staff member. Darren Turpin, 55, stormed into Brewer Street surgery and punched a glass screen so hard it shattered, leaving an employee with cuts to their hand and face. But that was just the start of his rampage.
Fleeing Offender Caught and Causes More Chaos in Custody
After the assault on Monday, 8 April 2024, Turpin tried to make a run for it. Luckily, neighbourhood police quickly tracked him down in the town centre and arrested him. But behind bars, Turpin’s temper boiled over again—he threw food and drinks around his cell and a consultation room.
Hot Coffee Assault Lands Turpin 42 Weeks Inside
The nightmare didn’t end there. During an interview the very next day, Turpin threw a cup of hot coffee right in a police officer’s face. The 55-year-old, with no fixed address, faced numerous charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker, and four counts of criminal damage.
At Medway Magistrates’ Court on 11 April, Turpin pleaded guilty across the board, including breaching a criminal behaviour order. He was immediately locked up for 42 weeks.
Chief Inspector Slams Repeat Offender’s ‘Intimidating’ Behaviour
“Turpin’s conduct was offensive, intimidating and entirely unacceptable,” said District Commander Chief Inspector Mark McLellan. “He was already under a criminal behaviour order banning abusive or threatening language or behaviour in public. Clearly, he has no respect for the law.”
