Mother Found Guilty of Baby’s Infanticide After Horrific Injuries
Lauren Saint-George, 25, from Belmont Road, N15, has been convicted of infanticide following the death of her 10-week-old daughter, Lily-Mai Saint-George. The verdict came after a six-week trial ended on Monday, July 25. She was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges.
Tragic Timeline: Baby Born Prematurely, Dies After Abuse
Lily-Mai was born prematurely at just 31 weeks on November 21, 2017, with serious health issues requiring expert care. After a lengthy hospital stay, she was discharged to her parents on January 25, 2018.
Just six days later, on January 31 at 9:08 pm, Lauren made a panicked 999 call saying Lily-Mai wasn’t breathing. Paramedics rushed to the home and found the baby had a pulse but wasn’t breathing. Emergency first aid was performed before she was taken to North Middlesex Hospital.
A CT scan revealed a brain bleed. Lily-Mai was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital for urgent neurosurgery. Sadly, her brain injuries were too severe and she passed away on February 2, 2018.
Shocking Post-Mortem Details Uncover Physical Abuse
Two pathologists conducted a post-mortem on February 7, 2018. They found 18 fractured ribs, two broken bones in her right leg, and multiple brain bleeds. All injuries were fresh and consistent with brutal physical abuse. The official cause of death was a severe head injury.
Investigation and Charges
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command launched a homicide probe. Lauren Saint-George was charged on June 1, 2021. Darren Hurrell, who stood trial alongside her, was found not guilty on all charges.
Sentencing for Lauren is scheduled for Friday, September 9 at Wood Green Crown Court.
