Shoplifter nabbed after £1,000 Worthing spree
Repeat Offender Locked Up
Linton Woolley, 35, a homeless man, has been jailed for 18 weeks after a crime spree involving 28 shoplifting offences in Worthing. His thefts happened between October 13 and December 5, totalling over £1,000 in stolen goods.
Guilty Plea Sees Swift Justice
Woolley pleaded guilty to all charges at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on December 11. Alongside his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay £154 in compensation.
Stores and Staff Fight Back
Woolley targeted multiple stores, including several Co-ops, Tesco, One Stop, and 1 Express across Worthing and nearby areas. His haul included meat, cheese, dishwasher tablets, and baby milk. Sharp-eyed staff spotted his thefts and quickly called police, helping secure his conviction.
Police Praise Team Effort
PC Jamie Sanderson said: “Woolley is well known for his previous shoplifting history in the area. Our relentless pursuit of prolific offenders has led to this custodial sentence, giving local businesses a break from persistent thieves. With many now behind bars, we’ve seen a drop in crime during the crucial festive season.”
