Chippenham man jailed for four years after raping teenager

Ethan Baily convicted at Swindon Crown Court

Ethan Baily, 20, of Hill Rise, Chippenham, was sentenced to four years behind bars at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, February 14. The conviction follows a trial last October where Baily was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl in October 2021.

Baily, who was 17 at the time, attacked the young victim on a footpath by the golf course leading to Monkton Park during a night out. He has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and hit with a lifetime restraining order banning any contact with the victim.

Detective slams ‘cowardly and despicable’ attack

Detective Constable Sam Long said: “This was a cowardly and despicable act committed against a young, vulnerable teenage girl. She was violated in the worst possible way and was unable to defend herself.”

“The victim showed enormous courage and resilience that led to Ethan Baily’s unanimous conviction by the jury. Baily showed no remorse during the court case.”

“Today’s sentence should send a strong message: sexual crimes will not be tolerated. Victims will be supported, and offenders will be brought to justice.”

“If you’re a victim of sexual abuse, please report it. We’re here to help and will make sure perpetrators face the courts.”
