Diving Museum Bags Huge Green Energy Grant to Save Historic Site!
£48 Million Boost for Culture Nationwide
The Diving Museum in Gosport, part of an HDS outreach project opened in 2011, has landed a major funding award. The grant targets Victorian Gun Battery renovations using green energy heat, tackling damp issues that threaten the building and its priceless collection. This clever eco-solution will open previously off-limits areas to the public and boost the display of rare diving artefacts.
The massive £48 million fund will be split across 63 organisations nationwide. It aims to improve public access to arts, protect cultural treasures, and fuel economic growth through culture.
Local Praise for Lifesaving Grant
“I am really pleased that Gosport Diving Museum has received this funding,” said Caroline. “It’s a fantastic destination I’ve visited many times. This will help keep the museum in top condition.”
Arts Minister Lord Parkinson added: “Culture is the bedrock of society. It brings people together, entertains and informs us, and helps us understand our shared past and future. Today’s funding announcement will safeguard treasured institutions and level up arts access across the country.”
Museum Director Calls It a Game Changer
“This award will be game changing for the HDS,” said Kevin Casey, Museum Director. “We’re saving a historically important building in Gosport, the very birthplace of diving nearly 200 years ago. This grant from DCMS is incredible – without it, this project wouldn’t be possible.”
Darren Henley, Chief Exec of Arts Council England, chipped in: “Our artists, museums, and libraries make communities better places to live, work, visit, and play. This investment helps millions across England live happier, more creative lives.”
