Nurse Busted Stealing Anaesthetic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Olufemi Majaro, a nurse at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, has been suspended after being caught red-handed stealing a prescription anaesthetic. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing revealed the shocking incident.
Colleague Catches Majaro in the Act
Mr Majaro was spotted by a colleague placing a white paper bag into his own bag. On checking, the bag contained two unused bottles of Sevoflurane, a controlled anaesthetic drug.
Shifty Story Falls Apart
At first, Majaro owned up, saying he found the medication in a corridor and planned to return it to the operating theatre. But he later admitted his real plan was to take the Sevoflurane to another hospital where he hoped to pick up extra shifts. The NMC panel slammed his explanation as “implausible,” questioning how he could ‘just happen’ to find such a specific drug in a paper bag at his workplace.
NMC Suspends Nurse for Nine Months
On February 8, 2024, the NMC panel suspended Majaro from practice for nine months. He had worked as an agency scrub nurse for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust for around three years before the incident on November 4, 2022.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about drug theft in hospitals and the need for strict oversight of healthcare professionals.
