Nursery Worker Locked Up for 10 Years Over Shocking Toddler Abuse
Chilling Silence During Police Interview
Thomas Waller, 18, sat stone-faced as Suffolk detectives grilled him over vile indecent images found on his phone. Calm and cold, he repeatedly uttered just two words: “No comment.” Wearing a puffer jacket, Waller slumped in his chair, swaying quietly yet refusing to answer questions about the sick photos. When pressed, “What do you think we found on that phone, Thomas?” his icy reply stayed the same: “No comment.”
Guilty of Raping Toddlers at Surrey Nursery
Waller was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court after being found guilty of raping and sexually abusing two boys aged three and four. The crimes happened over one summer at a Surrey nursery where he worked. He was trusted to help toddlers with toilet routines and nappy changes. Within days, he betrayed that trust, preying on the innocent children he was meant to care for. Evidence showed Waller’s DNA on one victim’s underwear and vile indecent photos of another child on his phone. Despite this, he showed no remorse as the judge handed down a 15-year sentence, with a minimum of 10 years behind bars in a young offender institution.
Heartbroken Families Speak Out
“When my son told me what happened, I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t even know it was wrong,” said one mother. “This man took advantage of that beautiful innocence.”
She described Waller as “cold, sinister and calculated.” Another father mourned his son’s shattered childhood, revealing the boy “has memories I would never wish on anyone.” The second victim’s mum spoke of her guilt and fear the images may still be circulating online. “It could impact his whole life,” she said.
Nursery and Authorities Slam Abuse
The nursery acted fast, cooperating fully with police and safeguarding teams. They have since overhauled their child protection measures to prevent any repeat. Surrey County Council called Waller’s actions “appalling” and assured the public child safety remains their “absolute priority.” The Crown Prosecution Service labelled the crimes “a parent’s worst nightmare.” Prosecutor Rebecca Millardship said Waller “carefully planned attacks” and targeted his job to abuse children. Waller is now locked up, but the trauma he caused will haunt those toddlers – and their families – forever.
