Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital was rocked by a nurses’ picket yesterday (18 January). The Royal College of Nursing is pressing ahead with national strike action today, ramping up pressure over pay disputes.
NHS Urges Public to Use 999 Only for Emergencies
Amid the chaos, NHS bosses have warned the public to dial 999 or visit A&E only for serious emergencies like chest pain, severe bleeding, or breathing problems. Non-urgent cases risk adding to the strain.
NHS Sussex Chief Dr Dinesh Sinha Issues Reassurance
“Patient safety is our absolute priority. We’re working hard to keep any disruption to care as low as possible,” said Dr Dinesh Sinha, NHS Sussex Chief Medical Officer.
“Despite the strikes, people should still seek NHS help if they need it. Services are in place to ensure everyone gets the best care available.”
“Some patients will have appointments rescheduled and will be contacted directly. But if you haven’t heard from us, please attend your appointment as planned to avoid delays.”
“We ask the public for patience during these two days of industrial action so help goes to those who need it most.”
