Teen Snapped with Knife Stashed in Shoe in Southwark
17-Year-Old Caught Cold with Blade
A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to carrying a bladed article at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 October. The teen was slapped with a six-month referral to a Youth Offender Panel and handed a £22 victim surcharge.
Knife Found During Stop and Search
The day before, on Thursday 8 October, officers from the Central South Violence Suppression Unit, covering Lambeth and Southwark, stopped and searched the youth in Southwark. They discovered a knife hidden in his footwear.
He was instantly arrested and charged that very day.
Police Praise Stop and Search as a Weapon-Busting Tool
“This incident shows how valuable stop and search is as a tactic for removing weapons off the streets,” said Inspector Paul Howlett of the Met’s Central South Violence Suppression Unit. “Our officers patrol every day, targeting violent crime, and this knife could have been used to harm someone if we hadn’t seized it.”
