Dog Attack Sparks Harsh Safety Orders in Brighton
A terrifying dog attack in Brighton has led Sussex Police to slap strict safety rules on two dogs. The violent incident happened on Wednesday, January 4, at Eaton Place when one dog mauled another, leaving the victim injured and its owner hurt as well.
Injured Owner and Dog Receive Emergency Care
- The attacked dog was rushed to the vet for urgent treatment.
- The dog’s owner suffered an arm injury during the attack.
Sussex Police Clamp Down With Muzzle and Lead Orders
Detective Superintendent Rachel Carr said, “We understand this was a distressing incident—not only for the victim, but for the wider community.” Police quickly launched an investigation, visiting the aggressor dog’s owners and assessing the dogs’ safety at the home.
The owners must now:
- Keep both dogs muzzled and on a lead in public.
- Never leave the dogs unattended in public.
- Securely fence their garden to prevent escapes.
Why No Seizure or Destruction?
Since neither dog is from a prohibited breed or has a history of aggression, authorities decided against seizing or destroying them. Instead, safety measures were imposed.
“The order’s terms have been agreed upon in writing with the owners,” said the police spokesperson. “Our force lead for dangerous dogs oversaw this.”
“I wish the victim and her dog a speedy recovery and reiterate Sussex Police’s commitment to resolving incidents in accordance with applicable legislation.”
